What moms want

What would moms would want for Christmas, if they had to choose one thing from my list (see poll at right)? So far, according to the poll results, a whopping 44% of you want spa time! Following in second place is more sleep. No surprise there. I knew sleep would be right up there.

So, if there are any dads out there planning to do their Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve, take note: your wife probably wants a spa gift certificate and a chance to sleep in!

Merry Christmas, everyone! And here's to a happy 2009!

Win the Baby Essentials Pack by Pea Pods Baby

Congratulations, Jennifer! You've won the Baby Essentials Pack. Thanks to everyone for entering.

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.

Win a Baby Essentials Pack by Pea Pods Baby. You can win:
• 4 BPA-free baby bottles (2 large and 2 small), and
• 2 pea pods (1 large and 1 small), which are neoprene sleeves that cover the bottles to ensure baby can hold onto the bottle easily and to keep contents warm or cold.

In case you haven't heard, BPA-free bottles are the only bottles to get for baby. Health Canada announced in October 2008 that it will "proceed with drafting regulations to prohibit the importation, sale and advertising of polycarbonate baby bottles that containe bisphenol A (BPA)."

Through extensive testing, "it was determined that the main sources of exposure for newborns and infants are through the use of polycarbonate baby bottles when they are exposed to high temperatures and the migration of bisphenol A from cans into infant formula. The scientists concluded in this assessment that bisphenol exposure to newborns and infants is below levels that cause effects; however, due to the uncertainty raised in some studies relating to the potential effects of low levels of bisphenol A, the Government of Canada is taking action to enhance the protection of infants and young children."

Enter to win by commenting on this post. Tell me why you want the Baby Essentials Pack by Pea Pods Baby! Deadline to enter: December 30, 2008, midnight. Don't forget to include your email address so that I can reach you! Open to Canadian residents only.

Children love cookies

We made and decorated gingerbread bears this weekend. My six-year-old showed a great deal of orderliness and pattern-consciousness when he decorated his cookies. He carefully placed eyes, mouth and buttons and shoes on his cookies.

My three-year-old on the other hand...well, let's just say "more is more" is her modus operandi. Here is her creation (it was so drenched in icing that it got stuck to the plate!):

And after consuming this ornate cookie, she did this:

But is it more painful than giving birth?

I had a very minor in-office medical procedure done today. The doctor warned me, "It will be painful."

"How painful?" I asked, already wincing.

"Well, if it hurts too much, we can stop," he offered. "But it will only hurt for 3 minutes."

So, I ended up getting the procedure done and he was right: it was painful.

After it was done, he asked, "Are you alright?"

"Yes," I replied. "It's not as painful as childbirth!"

Not much is, I think. But the painfulness of childbirth (or anything) is highly subjective. Some people say mothers don't remember the pain of labour and delivery. Which is why they go on to have more children. Time did not erase the memory of the pain for me (I went to great lengths to record it in my journal the day after my son was born)!

Is anything more painful than childbirth? Depends on who you talk to!
